Passives & Participles

The passive voice always employs the use of past participles.The active and passive voice refer to the form of the verb.The passive voice is different from the active voice. In the active voice, the subject of the verb is the person or thing doing the action : John cooked the food last night. In the passive voice, the action is done by the subject: The food was cooked by John. It is important to know the past participles of verbs when trying to teach or use the passive voice.
